A Guide on Where to Stay in Cabarete, Dominican Republic
Cabarete Beach
If you’re planning a trip to the Dominican Republic and wondering where to stay in Cabarete, you’re not alone. Cabarete is a small but vibrant beach town on the north coast, famous for its laid-back Caribbean vibe, water sports, and stunning beaches. Whether you’re coming for kiteboarding, surfing, or just to relax, one of the biggest questions travellers ask is: What’s the best area to stay in Cabarete?
For us, Cabarete is more than just a vacation destination—it’s home. We’ve been based here for years, renting and living in different parts of town, so we know first-hand how overwhelming it can feel to choose the right area or accommodation. We also get asked this question constantly by our YouTube viewers and blog readers.
When we first arrived, we casually mentioned where we were staying in our YouTube videos. That may have very well backfired—since then, the place became extremely popular and, rents went up, and we eventually got priced out! Since then, we’ve learned that the best way to help is by putting together a guide like this one.
This blog post breaks down the best areas to stay in Cabarete—from right in town to nearby neighborhoods like Kite Beach and Encuentro. We’ll also include some suggestions for hotels, condos, and apartments to help you get started.
That said, a quick disclaimer: we’re long-term renters here in Cabarete, not short-term hotel hoppers. We haven’t personally stayed in every property we mention. Our recommendations come from years of living in Cabarete, exploring the town daily, and chatting with fellow travelers and locals. Accommodation standards can change quickly, so please treat this as a guide to help you narrow things down, but always check recent reviews before booking to make sure it’s the right fit for you.
Staying in Cabarete Town
We almost always recommend staying in town if it’s your first visit. By “in town,” we mean roughly between Seawinds Condos on one end and Janet’s Supermarket on the other.
Here, everything is within walking distance—beach, restaurants, grocery stores, cafes, and nightlife. You don’t need a vehicle, though you can always hop in a guagua (local minibus), take a taxi, or rent a car if you want to explore farther.

In town, you’ll either be on the beach side of the main road or across from it. Many visitors prefer the beach side since it means direct access without crossing the busy highway. That said, crossing isn’t quite as scary as it looks—cars don’t stop for you, but with patience and caution, you’ll always get across.
Pros: Direct beach access, ocean views, walkable to everything.
Cons: Expect to pay more for the convenience.

This area still gives you all the benefits of being in town, just without direct beachfront. You’ll cross the road for beach access, but save some money in the process.
Pros: Walkable, affordable, close to everything.
Cons: Crossing the main road daily.

Staying in Pro-Cab, Cabarete
Pro-Cab is a gated community of condos and villas within the town centre. Some units have their own security, though not all. It’s more residential than touristy, but there are seasonal rentals available.
If you’re near the entrance, you’re only a 5-minute walk to the beach. But if you’re in the back, it can be 15–20 minutes.
Pros: Gated, quiet, budget-friendly options.
Cons: Longer walk to town and beach if you’re farther back.
Hotels: None within Pro-Cab.

Staying in Callejón de la Loma, Cabarete
This is more of a local neighbourhood, though it’s been gentrifying over the years. It can be a little louder, depending on location, but you’ll find some of the best restaurants here. It’s also still within easy walking distance to the beach and main strip.
Pros: Affordable, authentic, close to town.
Cons: Noise levels, fewer tourist amenities.

Kite Beach, Cabarete – Best Area for Kiteboarding
Kite surfer on Kite Beach
Just west of Cabarete, Kite Beach looks close on the map but isn’t really walkable to town. Walking the road is definitley challenging with no sidewalks, and the beach can sometimes be cut off with a section of breakwater when the tide ie high. The beach itself is world-famous for kite surfing, but access points from the road are limited. If you’re a kite surfer, this is your paradise.
Pros: Kiteboarding hub, modern development.
Cons: Hard to walk to town, limited beach access.

Pros: Surf culture, new developments, fun vibe.
Cons: Far from Cabarete town, limited amenities.

Cabarete East – Beachfront Condos Outside Town
This area has lots of condos, many right on the beach. You can walk to town along the beach or grab a taxi. It’s outside of the center, but feels more connected than Kite Beach or Encuentro. You’ll often have the beach to yourself.
Pros: Beachfront condos, quieter.
Cons: Limited amenities, not in the heart of town.
