Welcome to Romania's Best Street Food! Finally, we’re trying street food in Bucharest!
Our food tour in Romania, Bucharest was epic. We ate a mix of traditional Romanian food as well some international dishes. We started off by tasting Covrigi which is essentially a Romanian version of a pretzel. Then, we tried a hot dog with some interesting additions. After this, we headed to a place we had seen in the city that only serves fries called Cartofisserie. After taking a bit of a break we headed out to a small street food shop to get some pork tacos. Finally, we finished things off with a tasty Nutella dessert.
A Covrigi in Romania

We started our Romanian food tour by trying Covrigi in a place called Luca. Covrigi looks like a pretzel but it comes in different forms and you can also get them stuffed with chocolate. You choose if you want them with poppy seeds or sesame seeds. We went for sesame seeds. The bread was doughy on the inside and was very fresh. In addition, the smell of the Covrigi was mouthwatering. It was a bit crunchy. Moreover, we noticed that these were not covered in salt as we are used to seeing in Canada. They are covered in sesame seeds which were delicious. This Covrigi reminded us of something similar we tried in Turkey called Simit. Overall, it was a delicious snack.

We came to a place called Forguneta Street Chefs to try the Romanian hot dog. This fresh bread had a turkey sausage on top, some sauerkraut, sriracha and a yellow sauce. The sriracha was spicy but good. The bread was light and fluffy and has a little bit of flavour to it. We figured that the yellow sauce was spicy mustard. The combination of the hot dog and the sauerkraut adds a bit of crunch to the ban. This Romanian hot dog was a win.

We came to a place called Cartofisserie that had some gold-looking fries. We decided to give it a try along with some delicious dipping sauce. We went for curry ketchup and crazy cheesy cheese. The fries were soft from the inside and crispy from the outside. The cheese sauce was a little tangy. They were hand cut and they still have the potato skin. The combination of the fries and the dipping sauce was delectable.

Our next stop was for Mexican food. We came across a place called Dumas Van to have some tacos. We went for pork tacos in corn tortillas. The tacos were so good and spicy. The pork was nice and tender. We could not tell the difference between the sauce that is on top of the tacos and the sauce inside. The sweetness and spiciness of the sauce were a perfect balance. It was very tasty.
Mici
Mici
Another must-have dish in Romania is Mici which is basically small cylinders of ground meat. The word Mici translate to something small. The Mici was cooking on the grill and it was glistening and very smokey. The Mici came with a mustard sauce and you can also order it with Romanian cheese on the side. The beef was cooked slowly and tasted very good, especially with the mustard. There are some spices in the beef as well that make it very savoury. The combination of the juicy beef, mustard and cheese were divine.

Finally, for dessert, we went to a pancake and crepe place that was in the street. In this place, you can get different fillings so we decided to go for Nutella (Isn’t it everyone’s favourite?). The crepe was nice and fluffy but really thin. It does not overtake the Nutella too much. The pancake was topped with some sugar as well. The smell itself was out of this world. There was all different kinds of flavour including caramel, and cinnamon to choose from. The dessert was a perfect way to end the day.
